Had a wheel bearing starting to make some noise... Original quote was around $275 or so... They said they ran into some issues and they now had to replace they CV shaft, I'm looking at around $550 or so... I'm not happy at this point, but I OK they work.... The next time I heard from them they had rendered my vehicle immobile... Bearing, CV shaft, knuckle... and all the labor involved in trying to press the shaft through the bearing (unsuccessful). I talked with the service manager about ordering the parts myself to try and save some money on the repair (repair now being more than the value of the car). He "OK's" the order because the timing was the same as the part delivery from his supplier... Fast forward a couple days to when the parts arrive... Manager calls me to tell me that the labor rate has changed since I ordered my own parts... (contradictory to the conversation we had on the phone).... Not wanting to argue with the manager who is clearly getting direction from the owner, I ask to talk to the owner. ---- Either the manager completely lied to the owner or the owner completely lied to me. I work in automotive manufacturing, I almost always do my own repairs, we had something going this weekend and my wife talked me into just dropping it off local so I didn't have to mess with it... I'll never go back here again (which stinks, because they have good oil change deals)... I would NEVER recommend this shop to anyone I know. Accidents do happen when repairing cars... honesty needs to prevail and not at the expense to the customer.
Hello Scott, I appreciate you answering my call but unfortunately you hung up on me prior to being able to discuss your service concern that happened over 1 year ago. We take these items very seriously and stand behind all of our service for 2 years, if there is something that is not right we are more than happy to do whatever it takes to make it right. With that being said there are several items that are not accurate or complete in your above statement. I am happy to discuss and resolve any items that we are negligent on. -Your original quote was for wheel bearing replacement on your 13 year old, 200k mile Mitsubishi, nothing else. -To replace the wheel bearing you must remove the axle shaft from the center of the wheel bearing, yours being 13 years old and 200k miles of aging abnormally & excessively seized the two components together. Using a 60 ton shop press & torches to heat up the items red hot were still unsuccessful in separating the two components requiring the steering knuckle to be replaced and thus the additional cost. -You brought in your own components for the service after we informed you of what is needed. Our business is based on service and materials, and we provide a 2 year warranty when performing all of those services. When you provide your own parts you are removing 50% of our revenue, we, just as any other business could not sustain operations on 50% revenue, that is why there is an additional cost if you insist on supplying your own parts in which you did. This is not something we hide, it is standard business. -Accidents do happen. When they do we take 100% responsibility for them. This was no accident, it was only a consequence of performing service (surgery) to a very old and worn vehicle. These items are designed to be taken apart and put back together. After 13 years and 200,000 miles sometimes that changes. -We agree that honesty needs to prevail, that is why we take the time to monitor and respond to all reviews of our business and invite all of our customers to visit, see behind the scenes and ask questions. If you feel that any of this information is inaccurate please contact the shop and we would be happy to resolve. Even though this service was performed in April of 2016 we still recall it clearly as it is not a normal circumstance. Cordially, -Andy and The Hamburg Garage Service Team
